The tiny uninhabited island Plana West is 38 nautical miles NW of Mayaguana Island. There are no recommended places to anchor, but in calm weather, it's possible to carefully approach (watching for coral) the SW tip and anchor in sand. The water shoals from nearly 2,000 feet to only 20 feet deep in an alarmingly short distance. We enjoyed a beautiful night here when the wind died as we were sailing nearby. Here, we saw our first Green Flash as the sun set into the Atlantic, as Don played Taps on his trumpet.
