This woman, Meena Singh Khadka, was for years a roommate of Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India. Still working to help the poor, in this shot she is buying sewing machines. She had them ported to a remote Nepalese village in the mountains where local women are learning new trades. Tourism income has dropped dramatically since the Maoists began menacing trekkers on the Annapurna Circuit.
