Becky’s father, Leroy Hill of Belle Fourche, South Dakota served as an Army soldier in the Korean War. His experience was so traumatic that he was unable to escape the memories, or talk about them, for more than fifty years.
He and his wife Harlene joined a group of Korean War veterans on a trip to that country in spring, 2006. It was an emotionally difficult journey, and a special opportunity to finally deal with echoes of combat that followed him through the decades.
His photos appear to be those taken on any vacation. The stories are behind them are anything but ordinary. Please read about Leroy’s trip to a dark place in the distant past, and his reflections on freedom. It’s called: Korea.
In May 2007, the Billings Gazette profiled our travels, focusing on our efforts to help people in need in Asia. Gazette Profile displays the text of that story.
