Logs 2009

We are now in our tenth year since departing our work-lives in Washington, DC and “hitting the road.” We begin 2009 having already traveled a third of a million miles on more than two dozen forms of transportation.

We have updated this site from tiny villages in southeast Asia, from remote islands in the Caribbean, from many of the 70 countries we have visited. This is now a 150 MB, 302 page website featuring thousands of photos and graphics throughout its 70 trip logs, 80 photo galleries, one video gallery, scores of Q&A’s; and 18 essays.

Many people we’ve met around the world have stayed in touch. Among the people we have been able to assist are blind girls and lepers in Nepal, refugees fleeing their burning villages in Burma, and many others.

As 2009 began, we were back in SE Asia for the sixth time, exploring areas missed in previous expeditions. Our primary focus is extreme northern Thailand and tiny Laotian hill tribe villages in northern Laos, near the China, Vietnam and Burma borders.

After returning to the USA, we were soon planning another trip to Asia -- October and November in Nepal, Sikkim (India) and Vietnam.

Thanks for following along. As has been the case since 1999, we hope our travels will encourage others to explore their world. It isn’t always easy. But it’s always meaningful.
