Plan: Vietnam

This log is current October 1, 2009

The third country on our 2nd Asia expedition of 2009 is Vietnam. After Nepal and India (Sikkim), we will fly to Hanoi. This trip will be different from most, since we will not have enough time to rent an apartVietnam-mapment and live to the degree possible as do the locals.

After a few days in Hanoi, we will fly via Vietnam Airlines to Nha Trang.

To be honest, this stop is just for fun. The ocean waterfront is said to be beautiful and relaxing.

Then we will fly to Saigon. We’ll be there a scant two nights, but long enough to go to the war museums and get a sense of the nation politically, these many years since the war.

After Saigon, we’ll visit friends in Bangkok, Thailand a few days before flying home to Montana.

This trip is also different because although it is the shortest, only 54 days, it will be the most expensive. We have found that when flying on a tighter schedule, it is much better to fly a higher class of air service. Arriving refreshed makes a big difference when we haven’t much time at the destination. We made all air and lodging reservations directly with the airline and hotels. We will have only 12 days in Vietnam, but hope to use the experience to decide whether to return for a much longer time.
