Travel Logs

Introduction

The buttons on the lower left lead to our trip logs, listed chronologically.

Providing highlights and lowlights of our our travels on three continents and numerous remote islands, these logs detail of our almost nonstop travels since we departed Washington, DC in late 1999. Since then we have been searching for, and finding, many of the world's fascinating nooks and crannies.

While we have traveled in more than 70 countries, territories and principalities to date, our plan since initiating full-time travel in 1999 has focused on spending a longer periods of time in fewer destinations so that we can truly come to understand more about places and people. We don’t think of ourselves as tourists, but rather aspire to live like locals wherever we go.

These logs cover our travels throughout the “lower 48” States, Mexico, Canada’s western provinces up to the Arctic Circle, Alaska, Portugal, Thailand, Burma and Indonesia. We left Nepal in late 2003 and visited Cambodia and Laos before being called home to America on a family medical emergency. From there is was back to Pioneer, our sailboat/home on the Chesapeake. After a short trip “out west” we prepared Pioneer for the long ocean sail to the eastern Caribbean. We arrived there in late November, 2004.

We have tried to capture not only the details and mechanics of long-distance, long-term travel, but also its emotional highs and lows. In our photo albums you will find photos of many of the places and events described in these logs.

We hope you enjoy these logs. If you have comments or questions, please contact us at:
