Kwai River Christian Hospital
The work of the KRCH is multifaceted and wide-ranging, with the simple goal of helping all people in need within our community.
KRCH performs important projects that include providing family planning education and services, prenatal exams and health programs, plus 8,500 visits per year by children enrolled in our successful "Under-Fives" health program. KRCH has facilitated the installation of six gravity-fed village water systems, and has completed a major analytical village survey on water sources and health/hygiene awareness. We also provide scholarships for local nursing students who intend to serve at KRCH.
KRCH handles approximately 13,000 outpatient visits each year, and administers ongoing programs for diseases such as leprosy and tuberculosis. Although we lack the facilities to administer general anesthesia., we perform surgical procedures nearly every day and deliver more than 100 babies each year. Displaced Persons from nearby Refugee Camps are referred to us for serious medical problems and surgery.
KRCH is also a research center for the study of malaria, TB and other tropical diseases, in cooperation with the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences, which is a Thai-American coalition.
KRCH sponsors nursing students in Thai colleges at about $2,000 per student per year. Each student has agreed to help at KRCH for one year for each year they receive the scholarship.
The nearby United Christian School gives formal education to over 300 children, about 44 of whom live in our Christian Boarding House. Since its inception, the United Christian School has educated thousands of local children, some of whom have gone on to college and returned to serve the community.
